San Diego Women’s Chorus to Perform at Distinguished California Democratic Party State Convention
The performance aims to inspire social action at the commencement of the convention’s general session on Sunday, February 25, 2018 in San Diego, California
San Diego, CA, February 23, 2018 — The San Diego Women’s Chorus (SDWC), San Diego’s acclaimed women’s community chorus that welcomes members from the vastly diverse LGBTQ and straight-ally communities, announced today that they have been invited to perform at the California Democratic Party State Convention, a prestigious gathering of leading political figures in the California Democratic Party. The convention’s purpose is to “ratify candidate endorsements, endorse candidates for statewide office and map out how we can continue to lead the national resistance, define the progressive agenda for America, and remain the Big Blue Beacon of Hope.”
Artistic Director Kathleen Hansen of the San Diego Women’s Chorus shares, “Our mission at SDWC is to encourage women’s creativity, celebrate diversity and inspire social action. We hope that our music can help inspire citizens and law makers to take bold social action for human rights.”
“We will be performing a heartfelt ballad during their in memoriam slideshow, followed by a call to action: Fired Up by Holly Near. Current events have led to fear and anger, but more importantly, a time of people speaking out and stepping into action. I believe that music brings us together and allows people to experience strong emotions in a way that channels that emotion, building bravery and decisiveness.”
Keynote speakers at the convention include a host of leading congressional figures including Nancy Pelosi, Kamala Harris, Maxine Waters and Jeff Merkley.
