Fresh off the high of an exhilarating performance at the California Democrats State Convention the day before, on Monday February 26th, an ensemble from SDWC had the opportunity to participate in what was arguably one of SDWC’s most coolest community gigs to date: performing on stage with  Grammy-Nominated superstar Demi Lovato at Viejas Arena for 2 songs in the kick-off concert for her Tell Me You Love Me Tour. 20 members of SDWC joined Demi on stage for her smash hit anthem “Sorry Not Sorry” and the powerful, soulful “Tell Me You Love Me.” We also shared the stage with members from San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus for this special performance! Selecting only 20 SDWC singers from our 100 active members was no easy task- we’ve rarely seen a sign-up form for an event get filled out so quickly!

A little backstory: in mid-January, an ensemble from the Gay Men’s Chorus of LA (GMCLA) performed backup for Demi Lovato on the Ellen Degeneres show . The Demi Lovato crew loved the experience and decided they really wanted to have LGBT men and women represented in the concerts throughout her tour. Enter SDWC and SDGMC!

SDWC Artistic Director Kathleen Hansen shared: “SDWC is known for our mission to encourage women’s creativity, celebrate diversity and inspire social action. We are thrilled and honored to be joining Ms. Lovato – a strong female artist and activist- on the San Diego stop of her world tour.”

Singers from each chorus participated in a walk-through and on-stage rehearsal prior to the concert, enjoyed watching the concert from the arena floor, and then took to the stage for the 2 finale numbers!

Some SDWC members had the opportunity to listen to a panel discussion with Parkland High students, meet them backstage, and were moved by their inclusion in the concert, which helped raise funds for CAST on Tour, which offers wellness and mental health counseling.

Thank you The San Diego Union-Tribune for including SDWC in the article about Demi Lovato‘s incredible concert last night! Such an amazing and powerful experience for us! #rockstarsforaday#demilovato #tellmeyoulovemetour #CASTontour #sdwc #sdgmc
